Important Info On North Idaho

Well, if you zoom out and were to look at the WHOLE of North Idaho, there are a few things that would stand out. First of all, the landscape is some of the most stunning in the world! There are glorious mountain ranges surrounding the horizons, state parks and national forests, lakes, river, creeks, and bountiful wildlife. On SO many occasions we have been stopped in our tracks by herds of elk, moose, turkeys, and of course deer. We’ve literally been stopped in our tracks by one of the largest owls we’ve ever seen only to see it see us and fly straight up along a rock cliff next to the river.

Another thing that you’ll notice are the main cities or towns that are the center of each county that have their own unique characteristics. While Coeur d’Alene in the center resembles a small touristy metropolis, Sandpoint to the north is a hippie feeling, mom and pop store community. Bonners Ferry even farther north has a small time feel where most locals know each other and will catch up in the local post office where they run into each other. And in the south end of the panhandle you have St Maries in Benewah County well known for it’s logging community and their annual Paul Bunyan Days event.  Lastly you have Wallace in Shoshone County with it’s old time feel, mining history, and landmark “Center Of The Universe” manhole cover in the middle of the street downtown. You’ll find an alien spaceship on a corner, see a trolley with tourist being carted through the streets, and wild annual events that shut down the streets. Of course the world famous Silver Mountain Ski Resort is close by in Kellogg.

There are strong and healthy churches, right leaning politics advocating for smaller but more effective government, and proud schools with their sports programs and trade skills that unite each precious community.
