Bayview has a population of 1,015 people, with an average age of 59 and is known as a small closely knit lakeside village. It is located at the southern most tip of Lake Pend Oreille which is also one of the deepest lakes in the hemisphere. So deep in fact that the Navy has their Acoustic Research Center for submarine technology based there. You can actually see their testing center from town out in the middle of the bay where they lower small scale submarines into the depths.

In the summer, dozens of sailboat enthusiasts take advantage of the lake winds and race every Wednesday and Sunday  from their marinas out to a buoy on the outskirts of the bay and back. It’s a majestic scene with the colorful sails! Bayview also has the largest float home community in the state of Idaho. Many of these home come up for sale and have their own unique experience for those who live there part time or throughout the year.

Around the 4th of every July, the town hosts its famous “Bayview Daze” event which includes a pancake breakfast, morning street parade, road fair with vendors, an illuminated boat parade at dusk followed by an incredible fireworks display launched from the center of Scenic Bay. 

Farragut State Park is only 4 miles west of Bayview, tucked away at the base of the Coeur d’Alene Mountains. It is Idaho’s biggest state park, covering 4,000 acres and bordering Lake Pend Oreille featuring miles of trails, multiple disc golf courses, parks, boat launches, beaches, and RV and camping spaces.

What to do In Bayview

There are only a few restaurants in town. The Captain’s Wheel Resort, offers waterfront dining and is a popular choice for some fish and chips while admiring the beautiful lake views. The Lakehouse Bar & Grill is also a fantastic experience on the lake right by the public boat launch featuring fancy cocktails and a delicious menu of food. And your Bayview experience wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Ralph’s Coffee House and Internet Cafe. The walls are lined with historic photos of the area, you can sit inside or out in the covered dining area, and you’ll enjoy the best breakfast in town. They also serve fresh homemade lunches and dinners up until 4pm. The ice cream will make you shut your eyes while you savor and the coffee or other energy drinks are amazing.
