The town of Rathdrum has a population of 11,580 as of 2023. It is where the schools in the local school district are all located and they pride themselves in a great sports program. It is located at the north end of the Rathdrum Prairie at the foot of Rathdrum Mountain. Property types range from mobile homes in parks to homes on small lots to homes with shops on acreage. There are many great amenities in town like Majestic Park, where you have a picnic and can soak in the beauty of nature or Rathdrum City Park, which has a serene creek running through it and is a perfect spot for a relaxing day out with family and friends. Nearby however, you can discover Hauser Lake with its great fishing along the shores or public sandy beach and boat launch. One last important fact that we’ve always found as an amenity to Rathdrum is it’s location along Hwy 53 which takes a straight route westward to Spokane Washington. When we’ve needed to travel to Spokane, we’ve chosen many times to take this way rather than Interstate 90.

What’s In A Name?

Rathdrum, Idaho was originally named Westwood in the 1860s, after Charles Wesley Wood (also known as “Wes”) a Pony Express rider and rancher. In 1881 when the postmaster applied for a post office, the U.S. Government would not accept the name. M. M. Crowley gave Postmaster Zach Lewis a list of potential names. Lewis chose Rathdrum, after Rathdroma, which was Crowley’s native home in Ireland.
